Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Hector Bellerin has been offered a new contract.

It was reported on Twitter on Thursday that the young Spaniard had agreed a new deal with the club that would see him remain at Arsenal until 2019 and now, speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal’s game against West Ham, Wenger confirmed that the player had indeed been offered a new deal.

Arriving at Arsenal from Barcelona in 2011, the right-back has enjoyed a tremendous breakout season which has seen him claim the starting spot, albeit because of Mathieu Debuchy’s continue bad luck with injury.

Bellerin is expected to keep his place in the starting lineup for the visit of West Ham on Saturday in the Premier League.

Quite what Wenger decides to do when Debuchy returns from his dislocated shoulder is anyone’s guess but while it would be hard on the Spaniard to lose his spot, it’s hard to see the Frenchman not becoming first choice once again.
