Arsenal are only playing well in the league because they don’t have any pressure.

So says Alan ‘one medal’ Shearer.

Talking to BBC Radio 5 live he said

“Have we seen it before from Arsenal at this stage of the season where they are starting to play some decent football because it’s probably accepted that they are not going to win the league?

“It’s easier to play football in their current situation.”

Yes, that’s right, the Match of the Day pundit has asserted that Arsenal are only able to string together so many wins because they don’t have the pressure of winning the league on their shoulders.

So they have no pressure then, Al?

They don’t have United and, until recently Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham breathing down their necks in the top four race?

They don’t have the pressure exerted by the media and fans alike to do more, play better, win silverware? They don’t need to qualify for the Champions League in order to meet their stadium debt obligations?

Could it be that maybe, just maybe, they are playing well because Arsene Wenger has assembled a brilliant squad that isn’t decimated by injuries anymore and now that they are all fit we are getting to see what we could have been watching all season if they hadn’t been reduced to the point where they needed to recall a midfielder from Charlton just to make up the numbers?

No?

I can’t believe part of my licence fee goes to pay for this nonsense.
