Jackson Martinez is one of a host of players who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

Now, after comments from Arsene Wenger, talking to BeIN Sports, we are likely to see the speculation increase again.

Wenger said

“He has physical strength, is efficient and is the type of player perfect for the penalty area .

“He could play in the Premier League because he has the physique to make a difference and uses it in an intelligent way.

“He’s a great finisher and is on the list of many clubs. He  will be the next big transfer that will bring a smile to Pinto Da Costa (Porto’s chairman).”

Martinez, now 28, is under contract with Porto until 27 and it is thought that a bid in excess of £25m would be needed to secure his services.

With 16 goals and four assists in just 21 league games this season, Martinez has 35 goals and four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions, an average of a goal every 101 minutes which is impressive by anyone’s standards.

Will Arsenal be making a move? Are they one of the clubs on the list Wenger mentioned?

With Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez, Yaya Sanogo and Chuba Akpom, it’s hard to see Wenger moving for another frontman.

Now, if he was an attacking midfielder, then you could be sure we’d be trying to sign him.

A forward? Probably not.
