Ahead of the Monaco game Arsene Wenger said that Jack Wilsher was to be rested.

No, he stated, the midfielder had not suffered a setback.

So it comes as something of a surprise, then, to learn that he has underwent a procedure on his ankle to ease ‘discomfort‘.

If that isn’t a setback, then I’m not entirely sure what is.

The midfielder, who has been out since he was crippled by Manchester United’s Paddy McNair in November in a tackle that went unpunished made the bench for the game against Crystal Palace last weekend and it’s hard to know how long he will be out for now.

It’s also extremely hard to trust anything Arsenal say regarding injuries as this week has shown.

Why say he hasn’t suffered a setback when he has had to undergo an operation? Did the management think that wouldn’t come out?

It’s hard to understand just what Arsenal think they will achieve with the way they deliver information but it certainly doesn’t help with the relationship with fans when they consistently do this sort of thing.
