You might have heard its deadline day.

That means that all around the country the media are working very hard to link Arsenal with everyone. A few stories however stand out.

Could Valencia left back’s Jose Luis Gaya be Arsenal’s third signing of the window?

Following the emphatic win against Aston Villa yesterday, Wenger was asked if he would be active on deadline day, to which he replied:

“I don’t think I will be busy.

“We have done what we wanted and, unless there is a huge surprise and somebody calls me, then why not? (But) at the moment, nothing. It’s very quiet.”

Since then the media have been working overtime linking Arsenal with players (with Morgan Schneiderlin and Marco Reus being the big ones) and in the last hour or so the Star have linked Arsenal with a last-minute move for Valencia’s highly rated young left back Jose Luis Gaya.

Gaya has quickly become one of Europe’s most sought after young players after breaking into the Valencia first team and he has made 21 appearances in all competitions.

If you’re asking ‘why now?‘regarding a move, thinking Arsenal would probably like to watch the 19-year-old’s development for a little while longer well apparently Valencia are looking to offer Gaya a new deal, and a new deal would take away the relatively low £13.5m release clause in his contract.

It’s a case of act now – or he will be much more expensive later on.

So are Arsenal interested?

Arsenal will know all about Gaya and have watched him on a number of occasions.

They’ll know all about his quality and what he could potentially bring to the team.

However they will also be aware that with Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs at the club that they have no need for another left back at the moment.

However, with Real Madrid circling as well, it might well be a case of now or never.

It could happen I guess as well as some form of loan to get him some experience but I think it’s unlikely.
