A report in the Portuguese paper O Jogo is claiming that Arsenal will not send Joel Campbell out on loan – but they will sell him if their evaluation is met.

Benfica apparently met with Arsene Wenger this week to discuss the possibility of signing the Costa Rican on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy but the Arsenal manager is only interested in  a permanent deal.

Arsenal are said to want £10m for the forward.

It would seem as if Campbell has little place at Arsenal. Failing to get many minutes on the pitch it did seem, however, that there could be a future for him at the club as Arsenal allowed both Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo to leave the club on loan.

The Portuguese report also claims that when, in the summer, Benfica approached Arsenal about buying Campbell they were told that the club would only consider a loan deal, the opposite of what they are now being told.

Campbell’s Arsenal contract runs until 2016 and Wenger has repeatedly said that he will stay with Arsenal.

At least until the summer.
