Reiss Nelson has once again been impressing the Arsenal fans, this time with a solo goal for the U23s in Monday night’s win over Derby.

Arsenal were 2-0 down against Derby when Reiss Nelson started to turn things on. Although he’d played most of the match at wing-back, he was moved back to his favourite position behind the striker after a couple of substitutions.

He scored two goals to put the Gunners back on terms, before Nketiah went on to win the match for Arsenal. Nelson’s second was the one that got the fans excited with the youngster bagging an outstanding solo goal.

The Arsenal youth prospect is still just 17 years old, but has had a bit of breakthrough year. After a strong campaign with the youth teams in 2016/17, Arsène Wenger confirmed in June that Reiss would be one of the youth players promoted to the first-team squad.

Nelson then went on the pre-season tour with the Gunners and had the chance to play his first matches with the senior side, very much impressing, despite playing at wing-back rather than one of his usual forward positions.

This only continued as pre-season went on, with the academy boy producing his best performance with his last start against Benfica, including a lovely assist to Olivier Giroud. After that came his competitive debut against Chelsea, coming off the bench to help the Gunners to victory and Reiss’ first piece of silverware.

Now back in the youth teams, at least for the time being, Nelson is continuing to show that he’s ready to make the step up when given the opportunity.
