Morgan Schneiderlin, eh?

There’s a story that’s not going away any time soon.

After reporting recently that bookies had slashed the price on him joining Tottenham due to a flurry of large bets, the Daily Star are now reporting that the betting activity means nothing and he’s Arsenal-bound.

Quoting two sources, The Secret Footballer who apparently said “My understanding is that they [Arsenal] have an agreement already in place with Schneiderlin,” and L’Equipe who, according to the Star, reported that an agreement was in place between the Gunners and the Southampton man back earlier this year (although apparently they didn’t), they don’t mention if the two sources feed off each other.

So, what’s really going on?

Well, as we know, bookies cut odds in relation to betting patterns not necessarily because they have some inside knowledge, although that can factor into things as they look to stay one step ahead of their punters. Arsenal are said by the press to be in the market for a defensive midfielder even though Arsene Wenger has rejected all appeals to buy one for years.

The player himself has spoken about wanting to play Champions League football, something Arsenal can offer him and Tottenham, of course, cannot and it would seem more of a sideways step to go from St. Mary’s to White Hart Lane.

So where will he end up? Your guess is as good as mine.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him rock up at Arsenal and if the Gunners are interested in him I doubt there’s much Tottenham can do to convince him to go there. If they aren’t, then why move at all? Staying put is also a very real possibility with Southampton recently saying that should not be ruled out.

If the reports are correct and an agreement is in already in place then we should find out sooner rather than later as there would be no need to delay the announcement once the season ends.
