Sky Sports report that both Aaron Ramsdale and Emile Smith Rowe are expected to start for England against San Marino on Monday night.

Sky understand that England are likely to use a 3-4-3 formation, and give both Arsenal players their debut starts for the country.

With Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, and Jack Grealish all pulling out of the squad, it’s not hugely surprising that Smith Rowe might come in to replace them.

There’s no mention of whether or not Bukayo Saka might start, but again, you’d imagine all the withdrawals make it a possibility.

Phil Foden is still available, and he appears to be Gareth Southgate’s favoured choice at the moment. So it’s not guaranteed that Saka will come in by any means.

England do still need a point to secure qualification to the World Cup, assuming Poland do their bit and win against Hungary.

With zero points and just one goal for San Marino in qualification so far, it would be a total disaster if even a heavily rotated England side couldn’t pick up that point.

San Marino’s only win in history came against Liechtenstein in 2004. But the job isn’t done until it’s done.

Even if it’s not a high-profile fixture, it would still be great to see a couple more Arsenal players adding competitive England starts to their CVs.
