Arsenal made it four wins in a row in all competitions on Sunday, and three in the Premier League, dismantling Tottenham Hotspur in impressive fashion to leapfrog them in the table.

Saturday’s match away to Brighton now represents a big opportunity. Not just to keep the momentum going, but to gain ground on the rest of the top half.

With Liverpool playing City, United playing Everton, West Ham playing Brentford, and Spurs playing Villa, a win for Arsenal would see them catching up on – or moving ahead of – at least five teams in the top 11. If not more, should results go their way.

Arsenal particularly need to take advantage of the other top teams using up their energy in Europe in midweek. By contrast, Mikel Arteta should be able to name his strongest available side on Saturday. Here’s our predicted Arsenal lineup to face Brighton.

Goalkeeper

Aaron Ramsdale has won his spot and he’s holding it well. He finally conceded his first Arsenal goal against Spurs, but he also made some great saves and claims to ensure the win. Bernd Leno will have to keep fighting to earn his place back.

Defence

The defence is picking itself at the moment, particularly with new signings Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White performing so well against Spurs. They should start again, with Gabriel Magalhaes and Kieran Tierney on the other side of the back four.

Midfield

This is where Arteta will almost certainly be forced into a change. The early signs don’t look good for Granit Xhaka and his injury, so it’s pretty likely he won’t be involved in this match. Albert Sambi Lokonga will probably replace him, as he did in the Spurs game.

Thomas Partey should start, as we’re finally starting to get a run of games with him in the team. Martin Odegaard is an easy choice to complete the midfield trio.

It’s possible Arteta goes back to the system he used against Burnley, with Partey, Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe in the midfield three.

But after Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka were so effective in the front three against Spurs, you’d think Arteta would want to keep them there.

As mentioned, it seems pretty likely Smith Rowe and Saka start in the wide positions, with Tierney and Tomiyasu supporting them on the outside. That system worked wonders in the derby, and Arsenal always seem to look better with Saka on the right.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will complete the front three, with his six goal contributions in six games this season. He needs to get a run going in the Premier League, but he’s starting to show the form that earned him his contract extension now.
