Arsenal asked to be kept updated on any future talks over Sergio Ramos’ future but the player has now signed for PSG.

Earlier this week, Goal reported that, although Sergio Ramos was in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a free transfer from Real Madrid, no deal had been done and Arsenal asked to be kept updated.

Ramos wanted a two-year deal with his next club, and had considered various options.

PSG, though, then made a formal offer to the player which he has accepted. His medical was expected to take place on Tuesday, 6 July and his signing was annoucned on 8 July:

The move was always a long-shot for Arsenal. For a deal to have had any chance this summer, Ramos needed to want to play in the Premier League pretty badly. That’s basically the only edge Arsenal have, other than their light schedule, due to their lack of European qualification.

Ramos would have been assured a starting spot at Arsenal, given the uncertainty at the back following David Luiz’s departure coupled with the Spanish centre-back’s world-class pedigree.

Normally, we’d write this sort of rumour off as nonsense, but Goal writer Ruben Uria is usually a reliable source, so it appears Arsenal’s interest is, or at least was, genuine.

Not that they had any chance of landing him, though.
