Serge Gnabry says Arsenal would be the favourite if he returns to the Premier League in the future, still holding affection for his former club.
We all know the story with Serge Gnabry by now. He spent time in the Arsenal youth team before making his first-team debut under Arsene Wenger aged 17.
The winger made a further 17 appearances for Arsenal, but after an unsuccessful loan spell at West Brom, he rejected a contract extension to force a move away to Germany.
After a year with Werder Bremen, he joined Bayern Munich – where he became a Champions League winner this year. He’s one of Europe’s top wide players and loves to score against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking to CBS Sports this week, Gnabry joked that if he were to come back to the Premier League, Arsenal would be “the favourite”.
On those goals against the London clubs, he added: “Of course, because of my Arsenal history against Spurs, you have a little bit more motivation.”
Gnabry still has a contract with Bayern for three more years, and there’s no shortage of trophies available to him there. He already has two league titles, two German cups, one German Supercup, one Champions League, and one UEFA Super Cup.
You never really know what motivates a player in their career, though. Perhaps someday he’ll yearn for a return to England, to prove himself playing regularly in a new league. I’m sure Arsenal would be interested if that day ever comes.
