It’s groundhog day at Arsenal as Unai Emery’s team dropped a lead to surrender a win against Wolves in a desperately uninspiring performance.

2Midfield and Forwards

  • Lucas Torreira 6 – Was hardly a factor in this game. He made two clearances and one block but no tackles or interceptions, and he spent less time on the ball than Bernd Leno. At least his passing was solid when he did occasionally get it.
  • Matteo Guendouzi 6.5 – Guendouzi’s passing was often wayward early on, though it did improve. His heading was awful towards the end of the game though, as he seemed to misjudge the height of the ball repeatedly and lost possession a few times.
  • Dani Ceballos 7 – Other than letting Moutinho get in behind for the goal, Ceballos actually covered really well defensively. It’s just a shame the one moment he went to sleep was punished. Created one chance and passed well throughout.
  • Mesut Özil 8 – Had 10% of the game’s possession all on his own. Ran the show and was part of anything good that came from Arsenal, but this setup didn’t take advantage of how well the German played. No Arsenal player created more than his three chances.
  • Alexandre Lacazette 7.5 – Also created three chances, meaning Özil and Lacazette contributed six of the seven opportunities made by Arsenal players in the match. Lacazette only spent an hour on the pitch but he did well in that period. Perhaps should’ve scored one left-footed shot.
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 7 – Took his goal nicely, but he had more offsides than shots for the remainder of the game.

Substitutes

To preface the ratings, the biggest problem with Unai Emery’s substitutions was his decision to make them.

Martinelli can hardly be blamed for being asked to play out on the right, Saka shouldn’t take the flack for the call to take off Torreira, it’s not Kolasinac’s fault he was the chosen one to try and grab a late goal. Having said that:

  • Gabriel Martinelli 7 – Seemingly coming on to play at right-wing, Martinelli worked as hard as always, made a nice run at Wolves, but didn’t manage to find a goalscoring opportunity.
  • Bukayo Saka 6.5 – Put a great ball into the box in the final five minutes that someone should have attacked. Made a couple of good tackles but also got dribbled a couple of times.
  • Sead Kolasinac N/A – Made one tackle and a few passes, only came on for the final few minutes.
