Arsenal’s fringe players put in another abject performance against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday night.

Thanks to results elsewhere, Arsenal are through to the final 32 of the Europa League with two matches to spare. However, the Gunners didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory during their ‘qualifying’ clash.

The usual players, like Coquelin, were poor and we faced the same problems we’ve encountered all season. We couldn’t break the Serbian side down, they were getting in behind our defence far too easily and when we did manage to get a shot away, it was terrible.

There was nothing inspiring, creative or exciting about that side. But we already know that since that match against Red Star could have been practically any other match we’ve played this season.

Here’s how they got on individually.

2. Midfield

Reiss Nelson – 6

The winger struggled to get involved much as he was once again played out of position at wing-back.

He completed 86% of his passes and two dribbles.

Francis Coquelin – 4

The midfielder was terrible. He wasted the ball, tripped over his own feet and gave away possession more than once. He should not have a place in this Arsenal team.

Joe Willock – 6

Willock had a strong first half and looks to be a brilliant prospect.

There was a moment in the second half when Theo got annoyed at him for not passing the ball earlier but the 18-year-old shouldn’t listen. He’s doing just fine and Theo was offside anyway.

He completed three dribbles.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 6

The midfielder is still being played at wing-back.

The 20-year-old once again had a decent enough game. It amazes me how confident he looks on the ball despite being relatively inexperienced and playing out of position.

He completed 87% of his passes and two dribbles, and won two tackles.
