Throughout the season, they had battled with Liverpool and eventual runners-up, Liverpool and defending champions, Everton. But Arsenal held their nerve and secured the title on the final day of the season, with a 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield secured the title for Arsenal. It was a special moment for the fans who had gone 18 years without a league title. Tony Adams, Michael Thomas and Alan Smith were notable players that season.
