Bild report that Arsenal and Newcastle have Weghorst on their summer ‘shopping list’. Wolfsburg want €35m for the striker who has 20 goals and five assists in all competitions this season. The 27-year-old still has three years left on his contract.

The Athletic add that Weghorst is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, in particular due to his physicality. Standing at 6’5″, the centre-forward is excellent in the air.

After applying WhoScored’s minimum appearance filter, Weghorst wins the third-most aerial duels per 90 minutes. Only Bas Dost and Sebastian Andersson win more.

Weghorst is a good finisher and loves a flick-on, so he’s pretty much the ideal target man. Perhaps that could suit an Arsenal side with plenty of pacey wide-forwards but no one exceptionally good in the middle when it comes to hold-up play.

Still, €35m is a lot of money. Arsenal would have to sell one of their current strikers to afford that, you’d imagine. That’s not exactly out of the question, with both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette running down their contracts. We’ll see.
