Ben Sheaf scored his first professional goal for Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, and it was a very impressive effort to kickstart his scoring career.

Arsenal loanee Ben Sheaf thought he had his first professional goal earlier in the season – when his shot against Southend United found the net. Unfortunately, he lost that goal to the dubious goals panel, as a heavy deflection actually took it in.

There are no doubts this time though. Early in an away game against Gillingham, Sheaf picked up the ball some yards outside the box. His first touch opened up some space on his weaker left foot, and he went for goal.

To everyone’s surprise, the weak-foot effort from the defensive midfielder without an official goal to his name went flying into the top corner. You can watch it here.

Sadly, Rovers went down to 10 men and scored two own goals to throw away the lead and lose.

On a personal note though, Sheaf is starting to prove the critics wrong. Some Rovers fans have been particularly harsh on him in the last few months, but as we covered on Friday, he’s showing he doesn’t deserve much of the criticism.

Congratulations to the Arsenal loanee on his first goal anyway!
