After the disappointing debut defeat to Hamburg, Mavropanos bounced back to help his loan team to a clean sheet and a 2-0 win in his first home start against Sandhausen. He won WhoScored’s Man of the Match award for the performance with an 8.2 rating.

The Arsenal defender repeated the trick away to VfL Osnabruck on Saturday. Once again, his team kept a clean sheet in a win, 1-0 this time. Just like against Sandhausen, Mavropanos was WhoScored’s Man of the Match.

The 22-year-old was a monster in the air, winning 11 aerial duels, almost three times as many as he lost. All the other Nürnberg starters combined only won 13 aerials.

Mavropanos also made two clearances, five interceptions, two tackles and nobody managed to dribble past him once. In possession, he completed 77% of his passes, including six of nine long balls.

Most importantly for his club, those clean sheets help them up to 12th, five points clear of the relegation zone. Given they were in the bottom two just two games ago, that’s a big boost for them.

We’re also talking about the team with the third-worst defensive record in the division, conceding 38 goals this campaign. If Mavropanos’ performances can add a bit more solidity at the back, he’s sure to get plenty of games before the end of the season.
