Arsenal are keeping tabs on Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch ahead of a potential summer move, according to reports in Germany.

Sport Bild (via Buli News) report that Arsenal are ‘keeping an eye’ on Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch. Inter Milan also hold an interest in the player, as do Southampton and Newcastle United from the Premier League.

Grillitsch signed a new deal with his current club last summer, but it reportedly contained a release clause. The clause is €25m for English clubs, or €20m for anyone else, amusingly.

The 24-year-old is up to 24 appearances for Hoffenheim this season. He has one goal and three assists, though that’s not really what his game is about.

Playing mostly as a defensive midfielder, Grillitsch’s statistical strengths are his interceptions, tackling and passing. He wins a lot of free-kicks, likes to make tackles and take long-shots.

Bild actually linked Arsenal to the player back in late 2018. They wrote that Grillitsch’s agent travelled to England to make first contact with a few Premier League clubs. Perhaps they’re now closer to making a move for him, or maybe it’s just more gossip.
