Bild (via GGFN) report that Mavropanos will travel to Germany for a medical on Monday, before joining FC Nurnberg until the end of the season. Arsenal staff are reportedly still confident in the player’s future, so there’s no option to buy in the deal.

Bundesliga clubs Werder Bremen and Fortuna Dusseldorf showed interest, as well as 2. Bundesliga clubs Stuttgart, Hannover and Nurnberg. Presumably, Arsenal and Mavropanos felt Nurnberg offered the best chances of consistent playing time.

We knew from reports earlier this week that Arsenal were looking to loan Mavropanos. The defender made just one senior appearance in the first half of 2019/20, despite reaching double figures for u23 games.

Mavropanos made it back into the senior squad recently, sitting on the bench against Everton, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Leeds. He didn’t get onto the pitch on any of the four occasions though.

U23 football isn’t going to offer much to a player of Mavropanos’ physicality anymore. It’s too easy to compensate for technical deficiencies by simply outmuscling teenage opponents. He needs to go and play in a senior league, so hopefully, these reports are true.
