Dani Ceballos is set to miss out on the visit of Southampton this weekend, as his hamstring injury hasn’t yet cleared up.

Simon Collings of the Evening Standard reports that Ceballos is still not fit to feature in the Premier League action this weekend, as he’s struggling with the hamstring injury he picked up against Vitoria.

The midfielder had to be substituted in the 54th minute of Arsenal’s Europa League clash in Portugal, and for the first time this season he missed a game that weekend against Leicester as a result.

Before that, the Real Madrid loanee had either started or come off the bench in every fixture this campaign, so Unai Emery is certainly going to be disappointed not to have him available at the moment.

For Arsenal, it was positive that the injury came just before the last international break for a few months, as it minimised the amount of time they’d be missing Ceballos. Unfortunately, hopes that he’d be ready to return to face Southampton have been dashed.

This could mean a return to the team for Granit Xhaka, who featured twice for Switzerland over the international break to good effect. Lucas Torreira also played well for Uruguay over the break.

Matteo Guendouzi travelled with France but didn’t feature, Joe Willock played for the England u21s and Mesut Özil remained with Arsenal given his international retirement. Emery isn’t exactly lacking for midfield options.
