Unai Emery won’t recall Eddie Nketiah from Leeds despite the youngster not starting for the Championship side.

During the international break, Nketiah scored four goals in two games, including a hattrick against Austria for the England u21s. When he’s been given a chance for Leeds, he’s usually scored.

So, as we move towards the end of October, Eddie’s 161 minutes of league action is somewhat frustrating.

Against Birmingham on Saturday, as Leeds won 1-0 at Elland Road, Nketiah started the game, again, on the bench. He was brought on at the start of the second half when he replaced Patrick Bamford, 26, who now hasn’t scored in seven league games yet still gets to start ahead of Nketiah.

“Firstly I respect his coach (Marcelo Bielsa) and his decision. I think he is going to play more. He is going to deserve it,” Emery told reporters when asked about possibly recalling the 20-year-old.

“Each match he plays with Leeds and the national team is important for him and important for Arsenal also because we want him to get confidence and take experience and use it in the future for us.

“He is doing it. He is maybe playing less than we want, but I am sure he will play more.”

Bristol City are said to be ‘poised’ to snap up the forward should Arsenal bring him back.

Arsenal’s loan manager, Ben Knapper, is keeping a close eye on the situation.
