Stephan Lichtsteiner arrived at Arsenal on a free transfer from Juventus but I’m not sure many of us reliased just how far the Swiss defender’s game ad declined before he arrived.

eedless to say, he was far from convincing and there was never any expectation that the club would offer him an extension.

So, when the end of the season arrived, off he went with all the oters we set free.

This week it was confirmed that Lichtsteiner has signed for FC Augsburg on a one-year deal and the 35-year-old says he’s excited about the move.

“Augsburg is a very interesting club, I would like to play continuously again,” Lichsteiner said. “I am well physically, I have been training hard these months and I should be in shape. I can’t wait to get started, I feel I can contribute a lot to the development of this young team. This is exactly the challenge I wanted after the Premier League.”

He also revealed he’s been using a private coach to keep fit.

Last season, Lichtsteiner played a total of 1,732 minutes for Arsenal across 23 appearances and 19 starts, 10 of which came in the Premier League (only four of which he played the full 90).

His last game for Arsenal came in their 3-1 win at Burnley on the last day of the season.
