Fulham announced the winner of the award on Saturday after Chambers picked up 48.4% of the fan votes. That was more than three times as many as second place in the running, so it wasn’t exactly a close contest.

Fulham note he made the most interceptions, second most tackles and third most dribbles, aerials duels and passes in their squad in 2018/19.

Speaking after receiving the award, Chambers said: “I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone. I want to wish everyone at Fulham Football Club the very best for next season. It would be great to see you back in the Premier League soon.”

The Arsenal defender, who has been playing in midfield for the majority of the season, also posted on Twitter to say thank you to the supporters:

Chambers made 33 appearances for his loan club throughout the season, most of which playing as a defensive midfielder. Given Arsenal aren’t exactly lacking in that area of the pitch, it may be the best time to find a buyer for the 24-year-old, but it depends on whether Unai Emery still sees the Englishman as a centre-back option.

Chambers still has a contract until 2022, so there’s no reason to rush to any decisions about his future. Nonetheless, it’s good he’s had such a positive loan spell individually, even if things didn’t work out for his team.
