Samuel Umtiti is determined to remain with FC Barcelona this summer, despite interest from Arsenal, according to reports in Spain.

Midway through last month, rumours on social media started to emerge that Arsenal were interested in signing Barcelona centre-back Umtiti, amid reports suggesting the French international could leave this summer.

Those rumours were then backed up in the Spanish press, with claims that Arsenal would try and use former Barca man Raul Sanllehi to get a deal over the line. Further reports suggested the defender was the Gunners’ ‘dream’ signing.

Unfortunately, the 25-year-old himself is apparently not particularly interested in a move. Marca (via Metro) claim Umtiti has ‘little intention’ of leaving Barcelona, and he wants to win back his place in the side. He believes once he’s fully fit he can get into the team ahead of Clement Lenglet and prove the club don’t need to sell and replace him.

Right now, that seems unlikely, as Umtiti had a particularly disappointing game against Villarreal earlier this week, making two major errors. Perhaps it’s just a case of getting back into the swing of things after his long-term knee injury, but it was still just the second time all season that Barcelona had conceded four goals in one game.

If Umtiti keeps playing like that, maybe Arsenal will give up their interest anyway. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes.
