Unai Emery is still ‘desperate’ to sign Yannick Carrasco this summer, but his wages are likely to prove problematic, according to reports.
The Express write that Arsenal are still interested in the winger, despite failing to secure his signature on loan in January. The Gunners reportedly couldn’t agree a loan fee on their first attempt, but that isn’t keeping them from going back for him in a few months’ time.
There are a few complications a potential deal though. Firstly, there are a number of other clubs interested, such as AC and Inter Milan. AC Milan seemed to come particularly close to a transfer in January.
Secondly, Carrasco’s salary is extremely high, and Arsenal don’t have that much wiggle-room in their wage bill. According to the Express, he earns £8.8m a year in China, so he’d have to take a pay cut at the Emirates Stadium.
Denis Suarez could also have an impact on whether the deal happens or not. Suarez is currently on loan from Barcelona, but if he ends up convincing Arsenal to activate their option-to-buy and keep him, Carrasco might not be such a priority.
Of course, Suarez is still yet to make his full debut for Arsenal. It’s possible we’ll see it this week, as Arsenal travel to Rennes before taking on Manchester United a few days later. Visit https://www.betway.com.ng/sport/soccer to bet on the games.
