Arsenal and AS Monaco have already made offers to Atletico Madrid to sign Gelson Martins on loan, and ‘everything points’ to a January departure, according to reports in Portugal.

O Jogo report that everything suggests Gelson Martins will leave Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window. The La Liga side have already received two ‘important’ offers from Arsenal and Monaco, who are both ‘interested in the extreme’ in a loan deal.

The Portuguese outlet suggest that such a move could allow Martins to ‘relaunch his career’, as he struggles to impose himself in the Atletico squad. With Alvaro Morata adding to Atletico’s forward options and taking up more space on the wage bill, they could do with offloading the 23-year-old, at least for the time being.

There are hints from more reliable sources as well, suggesting that an Arsenal move could be on the cards. Matteo Moretto of Di Marzio tweeted that Martins had interest in the Premier League from Arsenal and Newcastle, and he added that the player was deciding between a move to England and a move to Monaco.

Meanwhile, the BBC’s David Ornstein suggested that Arsenal are looking at a second loan deal alongside Denis Suarez. He didn’t name any names, but it’s always possible Martins could be the second player. We’ll have to wait and see.
