Arsenal will try to sign a player next month but, like his predecessor, Unai Emery does not like the January transfer window.

Arsenal need to strengthen their squad after losing Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding to serious injuries but whether they are able to do that when the January transfer window opens is another matter.

We also have to consider that the club, for once, has a plan concerning the type of team they want to build and buying players just for the numbers is unlikely to be something they want to get involved in.

Speaking after Arsenal’s defeat at St Mary’s on Sunday, their first reverse under Emery since mid-August, Arsenal’s head coach was asked about the club’s transfer plans after we lost yet another player to injury.

“I don’t know now [if we will make signings in January], because we don’t have a lot of possibility in January but if we can [we will find] someone to help us,” Emery told reporters at his press conference after the game.

“But only if we think they are the player than can help us with good performance. January is not good for this reason, but we are going to look and the club is working for this in January.

“Our progress is also with young players and we need to give them more chances to play and show us their progress. But also for our big demands, we need a high level on the pitch and in the squad.”
