Arsenal have offered Stade Rennais goalkeeper Emi Martinez plus a cash bonus of €16m to sign winger Ismaila Sarr, according to the media in Sarr’s home country of Senegal.

Wiwsport.com write that Unai Emery is very fond of Sarr, and he’s planning to go on the offensive for the player in January. Arsenal have made an offer of €16m plus Martinez to sign the 20-year-old. The Senegalese outlet claim it’s a possibility the forward does end up leaving the Ligue 1 club in the winter window.

The report makes sense, considering earlier this week we heard that Stade Rennais were interested in signing Martinez anyway, and they’ve made first contact with the goalkeeper over a move. Yahoo Sport FR claimed the French club are looking to replace current goalkeeper Tomas Koubek, who is reportedly leaving the club next month.

There’s no indication of whether the swap deal offer will be accepted at this point, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Stade Rennais delay for as long as possible considering Sarr’s form.

The young wide player has eight goals and six assists in 23 games in all competitions this season. Even more impressively, eight of those goal contributions have come in his last seven games, including two assists against Olympique Lyonnais and both goals in his club’s crucial Europa League win over FC Astana to make the knockout stages.

‘Star of this team’

Former Bordeaux coach Willy Sagnol admits Sarr is carrying his team at the moment:

“The star of this team is Ismaïla Sarr, there’s nobody else. It is he who carries it offensively. He is consistent in his performances, his efforts. He is the only one since the beginning of the season who brings real satisfaction.”

Despite his recent success, there are still some doubts about Sarr’s final ball, and whether he has the consistency to make it at a club like Arsenal. We’ll have to wait and see if he’s done enough to impress Sven Mislintat’s scouting team and if the reported offer really is legitimate.
