Arsenal want to offer Real Madrid €90m for the transfer of James Rodriguez, according to a report in the Spanish media.

We’re getting closer to the January transfer window, so it’s time for some of the more ridiculous rumours to surface. As usual, Don Balon are happy to provide some of their own, the latest of which is that Arsenal are preparing to spend more than they spent in the entire summer to sign James Rodriguez.

According to the claims, Rodriguez ‘really likes’ Arsenal, and the club’s board would be willing to make the investment to please Unai Emery.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, after agreeing to a two-year temporary transfer from Real Madrid. That loan comes to an end next summer, so unless Real have a recall clause, this certainly isn’t a deal that will happen in the winter window.

Reports suggest Bayern also have a €42m option-to-buy in James’ contract, so we won’t even know which club Arsenal have to make a €90m offer to until after they decide whether to activate it.

It’s only a matter of time before Don Balon give up on this story and return to the fan-favourite Benzema-to-Arsenal reports.
