Luke Shaw has ‘no intention’ of renewing his Manchester United contract as long as Jose Mourinho is around, which opens up the possibility of a free transfer move next summer.

The Daily Mail write that the left-back is planning to run his contract down as long as Mourinho is in charge, meaning his current deal will expire in 2019. United have tried to open talks, but Shaw reportedly hasn’t forgiven his manager for all the criticism over the past two years.

The media have consistently linked Arsenal to a move for Shaw whenever it looks like he might be available. He was one of the players they enquired about in negotiations over the Alexis Sanchez swap deal.

There’s surely no better time to make another move than when the defender is heading towards a free transfer, whilst Arsenal have an ageing Nacho Monreal and an injury-prone Sead Kolasinac as their only left-back options.

Shaw clearly has the ability to play for a top club, as he’s showing this season. The 23-year-old has played all but one of United’s Premier League matches this campaign, and he looks to be back on the right track with his development.

If the contract stand-off continues, Arsenal would be wise to make a move quickly. They’re unlikely to get a better chance to sign the former Southampton man.
