Mesut Özil is set to return to training on Tuesday after injury kept him out of Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Fulham at the weekend.

Injury analyst and expert Ben Dinnery posted the update to his Twitter account, writing that Özil will return to full training with the squad after missing the Fulham win with a back spasm.

Of course, Özil will be sticking with the club over the next two weeks whilst a number of teammates head off with their countries for the international break. The German World Cup winner has expressed no interest in reversing his decision to retire from his national side.

That’s a good thing, as the 29-year-old could certainly do with the rest. With all his niggling injury problems and illnesses recently and a tough run of fixtures coming up, Arsenal will need the playmaker to focus on being fit and ready for those games.

Between this international break and the one in November, Arsenal have to face Sporting Lisbon home and away, as well as hosting Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, among other potentially tricky ties. Hopefully, Özil will be able to help the team to keep their winning run going when those big games come around.
