Arsenal want to sign Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski as a replacement for Aaron Ramsey, according to reports in Italy.

Italian outlet Sport Mediaset write that Arsenal have resigned themselves to losing Ramsey, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. As a result, they’re in the market for a replacement. One of the names on their current shortlist is Zielinski, a 24-year-old attacking midfielder currently playing for Napoli.

From Napoli’s point of view, however, the deal is a non-starter. They don’t want to let go of the midfielder, who is also capable of playing on the left wing.

Zielinski still has a contract in Italy until 2021, so it’ll be difficult to sign him if Napoli really don’t want to sell. Particularly after they let Jorginho go to Chelsea in a big money deal over the summer. They won’t want to lose another midfielder, and they can afford to miss out on another transfer fee.

The midfielder has two goals in his eight appearances so far this season, both in Napoli’s victory over AC Milan. Next up he’ll face Liverpool in the Champions League, so we’ll see how he does against Premier League opposition.
