Thierry Henry is set to become manager of Monaco this weekend, according to reports.

L’Equipe claim that Henry will arrive in Monaco on Saturday ahead of signing a deal to become the club’s new manager. Meanwhile, Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol says talks are at an ‘extremely advanced stage’ for the former Gunner to become the new manager of the club.

The two parties haven’t finalised a deal just yet, but both are hopeful of agreement in the ‘next 48 hours’.

Up until this week, Leonardo Jardim was manager of the Ligue 1 club. He spent four years with them, most impressively winning the Ligue 1 title ahead of PSG in 2016/17. Unfortunately, after that, the club sold all his best players, didn’t fully reinvest and then sacked him on Thursday.

That should be a bit of a warning sign to Henry, in his first ever management job. He needs to make sure he has assurances over the board’s financial backing in the transfer market before signing a deal.

The team is clearly not ready to challenge for anything as things stand, sitting 18th out of 20 teams in the league table. If Henry takes over and can’t turn things around with the current squad, he’ll need to invest some of the hundreds of millions Monaco made selling the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar and Bernardo Silva.

If Arsenal’s record goalscorer does end up taking the job, he’ll join Patrick Vieira in managing a Ligue 1 club, as his former teammate is in charge of Nice. Good luck to them both this year!
