Thierry Henry will take charge of Aston Villa at some point in the next couple of weeks, with John Terry as his assistant, according to reports.

They may seem a rather unlikely duo, but multiple sources in the English media are now reporting the same story. The Daily Mail wrote on Monday that Henry is set to take charge at Villa over the international break and that John Terry is his likely assistant.

The Daily Telegraph added that Brendan Rodgers was one of the leading contenders for the job. After he chose to stay with Celtic, Henry and Terry reportedly became the club’s first choice option.

Jamie Redknapp wrote in the Mail that he’s “delighted” with the prospect of Henry and Terry working together at Villa. He highlighted the importance of Terry’s inside knowledge of the club from his playing days, as well as Henry’s football obsession driving him on.

According to the reports, Henry would be expected to win promotion ‘sooner rather than later’. That’s not going to be easy, with the club 15th in the table after 12 games. We’ll see if the appointment is indeed confirmed in the coming weeks.
