David Ospina is apparently Napoli’s ‘talisman’ ahead of their Champions League clash with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The Colombian keeper, who is on a season-long loan as Arsenal try to shift him permanently from the club, has not enjoyed the best start to life in Italy, coming in for criticism for his early performances.
Surprisingly, however, Ospina remains unbeaten against Liverpool which sounds great until you actually look at the games.
He’s only faced the Reds once – a Premier League game that Arsenal won 4-1 back in the 14/15 season. For the seven other games against Liverpool during his time with the club, he was injured for two and on the bench for the other five.
Ospina has conceded nine goals in four Serie A games with no cleansheets. He did, however, manage one of those in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade.
This, then, seems flimsy evidence to use for declaring someone a talisman. Still, despite how many of us feel about the 30-year-old, I’m sure we can all agree we will be behind him tonight 100%.
