Nigeria star Leon Balogun took to Twitter to sing the praises of his international teammate Alex Iwobi on Saturday, after a big win for the country.

Odion Ighalo stole all the headlines in Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Libya, after scoring a hat-trick. However, Iwobi kept his own fantastic run of form going with another assist, setting up Ighalo’s second with a defence-splitting through ball.

The Arsenal man also played a nicely-weighted ball in behind the defence for Nigeria’s third. You can see both goals below (skip to 1:45):

One person who certainly took notice of the performance was Nigeria teammate Balogun. The defender admitted it was difficult to take man-of-the-match away from Ighalo after a hat-trick, but made sure to heap praise on Arsenal’s 22-year-old all the same.

Arsenal and Nigeria fans are both growing very excited at Iwobi’s recent performances, as he looks like he’s finding the confidence to add a little extra to his game.

The academy graduate has undoubtedly always shown a lot of talent, but Unai Emery’s system seems to suit him a little better. He’s also more willing to try things in recent months, rather than just laying the ball off every time.

It’s good to see that’s also being recognised by Iwobi’s teammates though. We’ll see if he can repeat this performance in the reverse match away to Libya on Tuesday.
