Arsenal have offered Beppe Marotta €3.5m-a-year to lure him to London to replace Ivan Gazidis but a report in Italy claims he will join Inter Milan in the next 10 days.

Despite Arsenal seeming to confirm that they would not be replacing Gazidis when he buggers off to AC Milan, instead promoting from within and splitting the role between two people, outlets continue to link us with new CEO.

The Marotta rumours have been around for a while now but what surprised me was the detail about his wage offer. While many ‘journalists’ clearly just make up rumours, when there are specifics they usually has a bit more substance.

Regardless, Marotta is seemingly off to Inter Milan, leaving Juventus after meeting with Inter’s major shareholder’s son, Steven Zhang.

Arsenal’s offer, which equates to around £3m-a-year or £57.7k-a-week, was not, according to the Italian outlet, enough to convince him to move abroad.

Gazidis is currently on £2.6m and with Arsenal withdrawing Aaron Ramsey’s contract in order to get their wage bill down, you do have to wonder how much sense this story makes.

Not much is my first impression.
