Jack Wilshere is facing an anxious wait to see how bad his latest ankle injury is and how long he will be sidelined for.

The midfielder has already been ruled out of West Ham’s game against Everton at Goodison on Sunday and will have a test on Tuesday after missing training all week.

“Jack felt a pain in his ankle two days ago,” Pellegrini said. “He doesn’t have a chance (to face Everton). On Tuesday we will see after he has a medical review.”

“It could be one week, it could be three months,” said an unnamed club official the Telegraph’s chief football correspondent, Jason Burt, referred to as ‘exasperated’.

Part of the reason Wilshere left Arsenal was because he couldn’t be given guarantees over his first-team role. Issues with his ankles meant that Arsenal could not trust him to be fit at any point, and although he has just enjoyed one of the longest injury-free spells of his career, this was always a possibility.

Hopefully, the results of his tests aren’t too serious but a friend of a friend, who knows Jack’s ‘people,’ told us years ago that his ankles will never allow him to play consistently at the top level.

The Telegraph also report that Pellegrini insisted Wilshere get a three-year deal despite the club’s reservations given his track record with injury. They wanted to give him a 12-month deal, initially. The club, however, in a desire to be seen to be backing the manager, handed Jack a three-year contract which he happily signed.

Should West Ham lose to Everton on Sunday, it will be their worst start to a league campaign in their 123-year history.
