Stan Kroenke has set Unai Emery the task of winning the Champions League according to Rob Draper in today’s Sunday Mirror.

Although the board accepts that Arsenal might struggle to get back into Europe’s elite competition this season, that isn’t dampening expectations at the club if this report is to be believed.

“Champions League qualification is the goal,” Draper writes, “but it is in the upper end of the expectations in the short term. In the long term Arsenal point to the fact that Kroenke’s formal offer document to realise the full takeover of the club talks of seeing the club ‘competing consistently to win the Premier League and the Champions League.’”

Draper goes on to comment that club insiders believe that Alisher Usmanov’s decision to sell his 30% stake in Arsenal to Kroenke will provide ‘new momentum for the club’ although he offers no explanation as to why this might be the case.

Arsenal are also still waiting on Ivan Gazidis to make a decision about his future amid links with AC Milan that would see the Arsenal chief executive increase his salary significantly.kroenke tottenham fans e1535865028571
