It’s only natural that for this first season, Unai Emery’s men are going to be continually compared to the Arsenal of the last campaign.

We’re six games in and it’s been a steady start for the club, sitting sixth in the Premier League following four wins and two losses.

Naturally, the bookmakers have written them off for the title already, with most mobile betting apps offering them at 7/4 to finish inside the top four, just behind Manchester United.

This time last season the club were two points worse off than they are today, having lost against both Stoke and Liverpool before dropping points against a struggling Chelsea.

But how have they fared so far against the corresponding teams compared to last season? Let’s take a look at how Emery’s Arsenal are getting on compared to Wenger’s, team-for-team.

Manchester City (H)

It was a case of similar story against the Champions on the opening day of the season, as Arsenal suffered a 2-0 defeat.

Last season that figure was 3-0 with Bernardo Silva bagging in both games. Always a tough game, it was a real baptism of fire for the new boss, who has recovered well from that difficult opener.

Chelsea (A)

Arsenal faced Chelsea in the first few fixtures of last season, albeit a very different Blues side.

The club managed to gain a point last term, but under Sarri they’ve been given a new lease of life. Arsenal started poorly this season, going behind 2-0 inside the first 20 minutes before a stunning comeback before half time.

The last 10 minutes proved crucial though as Alonso fired home a late winner to put Emery -1 behind Wenger when comparing fixtures.

West Ham (H)

The Gunners have been emphatic in their victories over West Ham in recent years. Their 3-1 win this season joined a 4-1 demolition last season in what have been comfortable fixtures at the Emirates.

This season Arsenal came from behind in what was a worrying opening 25 minutes before Nacho Monreal levelled the score and Emery’s men found their groove.

Cardiff (A)

Of course, Cardiff weren’t in the Premier League this time last season. Back in 2013/14, their last spell in the top flight, Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners.

Not as easy this time around, with the Gunners requiring a late Lacazette winner to earn their second win of the season.

Newcastle (A)

Arsenal finally started to get their stride under Emery against Newcastle, with only a consolation goal from Clark the downside in a comfortable 2-1 win.

With Wenger in charge, the result was reversed losing 2-1 despite taking the lead in the 14th minute. That’s three extra points for Emery.

Everton (H)

Both Wenger and Emery have taken maximum points against Everton at the Emirates, with the Gunners working hard in their victory on Super Sunday.

Lacazette opened the scoring with a stunning strike before a dubious goal from Aubameyang settled the game.

Last term, it was a little more emphatic with Aaron Ramsey scoring a hat-trick in a 5-1 win. Four wins out of four though and things are looking good for Arsenal.

Overall, Emery is just about up on last season’s results, earning two extra points than the tally in the corresponding fixtures.
