David Seaman says he still sees Arsene Wenger’s team when Arsenal play at the moment, and he’s waiting for Unai Emery to make his mark.

Speaking at the FIFA Best Awards earlier in the week, Seaman gave his thoughts on Emery’s start to the season with Arsenal.

He argued that although he’s beginning to see changes in the way the Gunners are playing, it still feels like Wenger’s team.

“I am still waiting to see Emery’s stamp on Arsenal,” Seaman said. “At the moment, I still see Arsene Wenger’s team but we’re playing different ways. But the ways we are playing at the moment [means] we are creating problems for ourselves when we play out from the back.”

Seaman’s point about the team probably has a lot to do with the fact there have been very few changes to the starting eleven. Torreira came in for Wilshere, and when he’s fit Sokratis joins Mustafi in defence, but other than that it’s the same side as last season. It’s very possible even Sokratis wouldn’t be in the team if Koscielny was fit.

Reports suggest that’s just the way Emery does things though. He likes to respect the players already in the side, and work new signings in slowly.

Nonetheless, Seaman thinks there’s still room to add to the squad in the transfer market, and wants to see more defensive solidity from those already at the club.

“He needs to sign top quality players as in marquee players,” the former goalkeeper insisted. “He needs to get the defence to tighten up but also defend as a team.

“When I was there we defended as a team. It wasn’t just the back four, or the midfield. It was the whole team that defended and then we attacked and at the moment it is a little bit disjointed.”

With six wins in a row behind him, Emery should hopefully be able to win over more and more of the doubters. Let’s hope he can get a seventh victory against Watford.
