Reiss Nelson rejected interest from top European clubs including AS Monaco and Real Madrid to sign a new deal with Arsenal, according to reports.

On Friday, Arsenal confirmed that Nelson had agreed a contract extension to remain with the club long-term, before announcing he’ll spend this season on loan with Hoffenheim.

There are differing reports about the length of the basic contract, with some reports saying three years, and others saying four. Everyone seems to be in agreement that Arsenal have an option to extend for an extra year at the end of the base length of time though.

According to the Evening Standard, Real Madrid and AS Monaco were at the head of the queue of several of Europe’s top clubs in chasing Nelson over the past year. Unfortunately for them, the 18-year-old is determined to succeed with his boyhood club, Arsenal.

There were some questions about Arsenal’s ability to hold onto their top talents, after the departures of Chris Willock, Marcus McGuane and Donyell Malen. However, the club have now convinced Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe to sign long-term deals, arguably the three brightest academy prospects in North London.

That’s in addition to academy graduate Ainsley Maitland-Niles committing his future earlier this year as well. Hopefully all four can now focus on their football and developing to reach their potential.
