Liverpool’s manager, Neil Redfearn has quit after just one league match in charge of the club after Arsenal trounced his side 5-0 in the season opener.

Redfearn, who was headhunted by the club after his six-month spell with Doncaster Belles, previously worked with Rotherham and Leeds and only arrived in Liverpool three months ago.

His sudden departure has certainly raised a number of questions about what is going on behind the scenes at the club with the 53-year-old telling Liverpool of his decision on Thursday night before the players were informed at training on Friday.

According to the Telegraph in their Saturday edition, ‘In private, there is thought to have been tension regarding the way the women’s operation was being run, as well as over the quality of players recruited in the summer.’

12 senior plays left in the summer, many joining Manchester United’s newly established team in the second tier.

Redfearn, who admitted only last month that he ‘couldn’t say no’ when Liverpool called, will be replaced by former goalkeeper, Chris Kirkland who will be assisted by Vicky Jepson, first-team coach, who was appointed to the role in August.
