Alexandre Lacazette has denied reports that he was looking to leave the club during the last few days of the transfer window, insisting he is happy at Arsenal.

As the transfer window wound to a close, Le10Sport in France reported that Lacazette was not happy at not getting to start games since Unai Emery’s arrival and was looking to leave the club. This was then quickly picked up by the mainstream media in the UK and, from there, spread around the world.

Of course, none of thee publications mentioned that Le10Sport are pretty unreliable when it comes to accuracy. It was a story and generated a few good headlines so it ran. And ran. And ran.

Now, someone has finally asked Lacazette if there was any truth to the reports, although most Arsenal fans with any sense already knew there wasn’t.

“I don’t know who said this stuff, but I am at one of the best clubs in London and I am happy at Arsenal,” he said.

“It’s always going to be hard to be in the first XI at a club like this, but I always keep fighting and working. I won’t play every week just because of one game.

“Every day I have to work and show the coach I work well and I deserve my place.”

Lacazette was not only named in the Team of the Week, he was picked out by the Guardian as the Premier League Player of the Weekend thanks to his fantastic performance against Cardiff on Sunday afternoon.
