Unai Emery says he hopes Lucas Torreira will be okay for Sunday, but it was safer to take him off early against FC Vorskla.

Torreira was an early substitute in Arsenal’s 4-2 mid-week win, coming off in the 57th minute. Initially it seemed he was just being rested for the weekend, but fans started to panic when they spotted him with an ice pack on his leg whilst on the bench.

Emery gave an update on the situation in his press conference after the match.

“Each match we play, I am responsible for the group, and for Torreira also,” he said. “Today I think it is better [for Lucas] to leave the match. I hope that tomorrow and Saturday, he will be okay for Sunday.”

From the sounds of things the potential injury is nothing major, at least. It seems like the injury was a precautionary one, rather than one Emery was forced into. However, after Torreira’s early substitution for Uruguay recently in similar circumstances, it’s starting to look like he may be carrying something.

It’s a shame, because the midfielder is one of Arsenal’s brightest performers at the moment. Hopefully he shakes off whatever problem he’s having and gets a run of starts in the near future, because the Gunners’ performances would certainly benefit from that.
