Coventry City manager Mark Robins says he wouldn’t hesitate to sign Eddie Nketiah on loan, if he gets the opportunity in the January window.

Arsenal’s u21s faced Coventry City earlier this week in the Checkatrade Trophy, and the young Gunners came out 3-0 winners after an impressive performance. Robins couldn’t help but admire their performance.

“Arsenal’s movement was good, slick, crisp and clean,” said Robins. “The cleaner you can hit the ball the better chance of scoring and they showed that on the night.”

One youngster in particular clearly caught Robins’ eye: Eddie Nketiah. The 19-year-old came on late in the game and set up a great chance for Tyreece John-Jules, before scoring one of his own, and playing a big part in the build up to Arsenal’s third. The Coventry manager didn’t hide the fact he’d like to take the striker on loan.

“They had the option to bring on Eddie Nketiah who you can see has outstanding movement and ability, and he’s one that you would not hesitate to take,” he said afterwards. “He’s a really good, talented footballer and a lot them are players who you would say you’d be interested in if they became available.”

For the time being, Nketiah will remain with Arsenal, with the summer transfer window now closed. Hopefully that’ll give him the chance to get some minutes in the Gunners’ first-team, playing in the Europa League and League Cup matches, but we’ll have to wait and see.

After January though, opportunities tend to dry up. The only remaining League Cup match is the final, if you’ve made it that far. Meanwhile the Europa League games have reached the knockout stage, and you probably end up playing big games against teams that have dropped down from the Champions League.

At that point, maybe it would be better if Nketiah went on loan to play a bit more regularly. It’s good to know there’s some interest in him if that’s what he decides to do.
