Armenian national team defender Andre Calisir has revealed his gratefulness to Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who helps him out with any language difficulties with the squad.

Calisir was born in Sweden, and has spent his entire playing career in the country. As a result, his Armenian probably isn’t quite up to scratch. However, he understandably chose to play for the country of his ancestors anyway, as opposed to the one he was born in.

As a result, he sometimes needs help translating, when with the national side, and Mkhitaryan is apparently always on hand to assist.

“I don’t really have a ‘best friend’ (in the squad), they are all nice to me,” Calisir told Vivaro News. “But with the language problems, Henrikh Mkhitaryan helps me a lot. He is a true captain.”

Mkhitaryan is a bit of a language expert, speaking Armenian, French, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, English and German. The two players most likely communicate in English, since 86% of Swedish citizens speak the language well enough to have a conversation.

Arsenal’s 29-year-old has captained his country for a few years now, first taking up the armband in May 2014, before receiving the captaincy permanently in late 2015. He’ll be hoping to lead them to a couple of good results when the UEFA Nations League kicks off later this week.

Armenia face Liechtenstein and FYR Macedonia on Thursday 6th and Sunday 9th September.
