Nicklas Bendtner has released a statement of apology after his reported arrest for an incident involving ‘breaking a taxi driver’s jaw’ in Denmark.

According to the reports, Bendtner was arrested for the incident in Copenhagen early on Sunday morning. Copenhagen Police confirmed they were notified of violence against a cab driver at 2:41am, and reports in the country claim Bendtner had been out at a nightclub with his girlfriend.

The player himself has now issued a statement on the issue, apologising to the fans, the club and his teammates, although he doesn’t reveal much about the actual incident, as the legal case is still ongoing.

The fact that Bendtner felt the need to come out and apologise for the situation, rather than denying it, implies some sort of involvement in what happened. For now that’s just speculation though, and we’ll have to wait for the outcome of the case to know anything for sure.

On a day when Hugo Lloris pleaded guilty to being more than twice the drink-drive limit, it leaves you wondering why some footballers seem to think the rules don’t apply to them. Hopefully the rest of the footballing community takes these examples as a lesson, and don’t repeat the same mistakes.
