Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is considering retiring from international football according to Gabon’s new manager, Daniel Cousin.

Last week, Gabon named the Arsenal striker’s father, Pierre, as manager of the national team. They claimed he would become a joint manager along with Daniel Cousin. However, Aubameyang Jr. posted on social media to deny the reports.

The 29-year-old revealed that his father is currently in poor health, and Gabon didn’t get his agreement before making their announcement.

“You were wondering why I have problems with you, why I don’t want to come and play for the national team,” Aubameyang wrote on Instagram, in a post directed at the Gabon federation. “You have told the whole world about my father, the so-called coach of the national team, when you did not even get his agreement!

Speaking to RMC, Cousin, who was then appointed sole manager, said, “I sent a message to his father, with whom I have a great relationship, I hope he wants to honor the national team and help us to qualify for the 2019 African Cup, but I must also think to a plan B if he decides to leave the team, but I still do not know what his decision is.”

During the last international break, Auba left the Gabonese camp earlier to return to Arsenal despite not having an injury.

Aubameyang was one of three players Gabon allowed to leave ahead of their final friendly of that international break. Southampton’s Mario Lemina also left the camp as did Serge Martinsson Ngouali who was carrying an injury.

Aubameyang has 50 caps for his country and 20 goals. He last played for his country against Burundi on 8 September in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game, scoring their only goal in a 1-1 draw
